Yes, absolutely you could totally feel sick afterwards because what you’ve done is made all the mold airborne. Are you feeling lots better? If not, there may be other sources of mold in the house.

I cleaned foam cushions that had mold by running water through them and squeezing it out in my bathtub. I spent hours doing this and became sick with stomach ache and diarrhea by the end of the day. Could these symptoms be from exposure to the mold?

The common side effects of mold include coughing and sneezing and can easy be misdiagnosed as the common cold or allergy. There are some things that black mold is on that you can clean up yourself such as walls, doors, and the like. (Basically non-porous surfaces) But for clothing that has mold, it’s impossible to get rid of it so just chuck them.

Airing a room will also do wonders as well as simply dusting off books and furniture. But if you suspect that there is serious black mold INSIDE the walls, call someone!

How difficult is it to remove black mold on your own? Is it better to call someone in to do it or can I get it done myself?

Hi Kevin and Laura, hope your wife and dad (respectively) are much much better now. We’ve thrown out all our towels that show even the slightest sign of black mold and try to air the entire house during the weekends.

My dad lived in a mobile home for a little over a year which had a huge black mold problem. He’s now been out of that mobile home for a bit over 4 months, and is just starting to regain his full health. Black mold is def. not something to mess with.

That was very intersting to read. My wife suffors from most indoor allergies so we have to be extremely carefull in preventing molds and other air borne bacteria from forming. This something many people need to read about and then take action with.
