A kidney specialist made a thought-provoking remark, “It is difficult to believe that evolution left us with a chronic water deficit that needs to be compensated by forcing a high fluid intake.”
He was responding to the oft-repeated mantra that we should drink 8 glasses of water a day. Someone asked what the harm was, even if the supposed benefits may not be true. His reply was funny, “well, we’ll feel guilty for one. And it could be embarrassing, if not definitely inconvenient to have to keep going to the bathroom. But seriously, I suppose the worse thing is the water may actually be polluted- and cause more damage.”
His arguments against the 8 glasses of water mantra, frankly, didn’t hold water! I think its good, especially for office bound people to keep getting up and going to the bathroom instead of sitting and risking deep vein thrombosis! Our eyes and brains need the break as well. In fact, one entrepreneur said that his secret to success is drinking lots of water because he seems to get most of his great ideas in the loo!

Lastly, the kidney specialist also conceded that drinking 8 glasses or more per day is advisable for the treatment or prevention of some diseases, such as kidney stones.
So I say, evidence or not, drink up! (Water that is)
